Google said on Monday that it is formally implementing Android developer verification for all developers in an effort to address the issue of malicious actors disseminating dangerous apps while “hiding behind anonymity.”
The announcement precedes a planned verification obligation that will take effect in September in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand before spreading throughout the world the following year.
Google is forcing app developers who distribute apps outside of Google Play to register for an account in the Android Developer Console in order to verify their identity as part of this endeavor.
