Betterleaks is a new open-source program that uses default or customizable filters to scan directories, files, and git repositories for legitimate secrets.
Specialized tools known as “secret scanners” search repositories for private keys, tokens, API keys, credentials, and other sensitive data that developers may have unintentionally included in source code.
This kind of tool can assist detect secrets and safeguard them before attackers can discover them, since threat actors frequently search configuration files in public repositories for critical information.
With assistance from Aikido, a Belgian company that offers a platform for protecting the development cycle, the same team is working on the new Betterleaks project, which is meant to be a more sophisticated replacement for Gitleaks.
