FamousSparrow, a Chinese threat actor, has been connected to a cyberattack that aimed to deliver its flagship backdoor SparrowDoor and ShadowPad to a research center in Mexico and a trade group in the United States.
The action, which was noticed in July 2024, is the first instance of the hacking team using ShadowPad, a piece of malware that Chinese state-sponsored hackers frequently distribute.
In an analysis provided to The Hacker News, ESET said that FamousSparrow had implemented two previously unreported iterations of the SparrowDoor backdoor, one of which was modular.
