In response to government requests for backdoor access to encrypted user data, Apple is eliminating the Advanced Data Protection (ADP) function for iCloud from the UK with immediate effect. Bloomberg was the first to report on the news. An optional setting called ADP for iCloud makes sure that the encryption keys needed to unlock data saved in the cloud are only accessible by users' trusted devices.
