New Android Malware NGate Steals NFC Data to Clone Contactless Payment Cards
Researchers studying cybersecurity have discovered a new type of malware for Android that may transmit contactless payment information from physical credit and debit cards to a device under the control of the attacker, allowing the attacker to carry out fraudulent activities.
The Slovak cybersecurity firm, which is monitoring the new malware under the code name NGate, claims to have seen the crimeware campaign that is aimed at three Czech banks.
According to an examination by researchers Lukáš Štefanko and Jakub Osmani, the virus possesses a unique ability to transmit data from victims' payment cards to the attacker's rooted Android phone using a malicious app installed on the victims' Android smartphones.
