New Linux Variant of FASTCash Malware Targets Payment Switches in ATM Heists
In a financially driven campaign, North Korean threat actors have been seen stealing money using a Linux version of the well-known malware family FASTCash.
According to a security researcher going by the name HaxRob, the malware is set up on payment switches in hacked networks that process card transactions in order to enable the illegal withdrawal of cash from ATMs.
The U.S. government first reported in October 2018 that North Korean-affiliated opponents were using FASTCash as part of an ATM cashout scam that had been targeting banks in Asia and Africa since at least late 2016.
