Instagram ‘BMO’ ads use AI deepfakes to scam banking customers
Phishing schemes and investment fraud are targeting Canadian consumers using Instagram advertising that pose as financial organizations such as Bank of Montreal (BMO) and Equitable Bank (EQ Bank).
While some advertisements utilize official branding to direct users to lookalike illegal domains unrelated to banks, others employ AI-powered deepfake videos to try and obtain your personal information.
We have seen numerous examples of Instagram advertisements that are scams even if they seem to be from Canadian banks.
