GitVenom Malware Steals $456K in Bitcoin Using Fake GitHub Projects to Hijack Wallets
Researchers studying cybersecurity are drawing attention to a persistent effort that poses as open-source projects published on GitHub and targets bitcoin speculators and gamers.
Kaspersky has named the campaign, which covers hundreds of repositories, GitVenom.
According to the Russian cybersecurity firm, the compromised projects include a crack tool for the Valorant game, an automation tool for dealing with Instagram accounts, and a Telegram bot that allows remote management of Bitcoin wallets.
