With the release of Bluetooth Core Specification 6.1, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) has made significant advancements to the widely used wireless communication technology.
Increased device privacy with randomized Resolvable Private Addresses (RPA) updates is one new feature that the most recent version highlights.
According to SIG's release, randomizing the timing of address changes makes it far more difficult for third parties to monitor or correlate device behavior over time.
To preserve user privacy, a device's fixed MAC address is replaced with a Resolvable Private Address (RPA), a Bluetooth address designed to appear random. It enables secure reconnections between trusted devices while keeping their true identities hidden.
