Snowflake Hacker Pleads Guilty Over Breaches Affecting at Least 100 Million People

In a Seattle federal court on Wednesday, Connor Riley Moucka entered a guilty plea to charges of computer fraud, wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, and a related conspiracy pertaining to the 2024 Snowflake customer account breaches. At least 165 organizations were affected, and at least 100 million people's records were compromised. Moucka, 26, of Kitchener, Ontario, personally stole at least $495,000 from data sales and ransom payments. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of two years for the identity theft count and a maximum term of thirty years for the remaining counts. His sentencing is scheduled for October 27. Google Disrupts UNC2814 GRIDTIDE Campaign After 53 Breaches Across 42 Countries

Google revealed on Wednesday that it collaborated with industry partners to take down the infrastructure of a suspected cyber espionage outfit with a connection to China, known as UNC2814, which compromised at least 53 firms in 42 different countries. In a research released today, Google Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG) and Mandiant stated that this prolific, elusive actor has a lengthy history of attacking foreign governments and global telecommunications companies in Africa, Asia, and the Americas.
