737 Chrome VPN Extensions Caught Routing Traffic Through Proxies. Check If You Have One
It has been discovered that a vast collection of 737 free VPN and proxy extensions primarily target Russian-speaking users looking to access banned services with the intention of intercepting browser traffic and rerouting it thru a proxy infrastructure.
The extensions received 75,486 installs after being released by at least 40 Chrome Web Store developer accounts. According to Socket, 274 of those detected were impersonating 66 well-known VPN and privacy firms, such as Proton VPN, NordVPN, Surfshark, AdGuard VPN, Browsec, ExpressVPN, CyberGhost, Windscribe, TunnelBear, Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1, and Google's Outline.
