Kimwolf DDoS Botnet Operator Arrested in Canada Over DDoS-for-Hire Attacks
A Canadian man was arrested on Thursday by the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) for allegedly running the Kimwolf distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) botnet.
Concurrently, 23-year-old Ottawa, Canada resident Jacob Butler (also known as Dort) has been accused with crimes pertaining to the creation and management of the botnet. It is determined that Kimwolf is an AISURU variation.
Kimwolf targeted infected devices that were typically "firewalled" from the rest of the internet, like webcams and digital picture frames, according to the DoJ. The botnet operators enslaved the compromised devices.
