Vane Viper Generates 1 Trillion DNS Queries to Power Global Malware and Ad Fraud Network
Using a complex network of shell corporations and ambiguous ownership structures, the threat actor Vane Viper has been exposed as a distributor of harmful ad technology (adtech) and has purposefully avoided accountability.
According to a technical assessment released last week by Infoblox in partnership with Guardio and Confiant, Vane Viper has been involved in the basic infrastructure of pervasive malvertising, ad fraud, and the dissemination of cyberthreats for at least ten years.
Vane Viper appears to manage their own campaigns in addition to brokering traffic for phishers and trojan droppers, which is in line with previously known ad-fraud tactics.
