Dutch govt warns of Signal WhatsApp account hijacking attacks
An continuous phishing campaign on Signal and WhatsApp that targets government officials, military people, and journalists in order to get private messages has been connected to Russian state-sponsored hackers.
The Netherlands General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) and the Netherlands Defence Intelligence and Security Service (MIVD) have acknowledged that the assaults have targeted Dutch government officials.
According to the Dutch intelligence services, the operation uses social engineering and phishing techniques to take over accounts and surreptitiously monitor fresh messages by abusing genuine authentication capabilities.
