New FakeCall Malware Variant Hijacks Android Devices for Fraudulent Banking Calls
Researchers studying cybersecurity have found a new variant of the popular Android malware family called FakeCall, which uses voice phishing, often known as vishing, to deceive users into disclosing personal information.
According to a paper released last week by Zimperium researcher Fernando Ortega, FakeCall is a highly advanced Vishing attack that uses malware to gain nearly total control of the mobile device, including the ability to intercept incoming and outgoing calls.
By imitating the typical user experience on the device, victims are deceived into calling fictitious phone numbers under the attacker's control.
