Microsoft Warns IRS Phishing Hits 29000 Users Deploys RMM Malware
Microsoft has issued a warning about new efforts that are using the impending U.S. tax season to gather login credentials and distribute malware.
In order to trick recipients into opening malicious attachments, scanning QR codes, or clicking on dubious links, the email campaigns take advantage of the urgency and time-sensitive nature of emails to send phishing messages posing as refund notices, payroll forms, filing reminders, and requests from tax professionals.
