eSIM Vulnerability in Kigen’s eUICC Cards Exposes Billions of IoT Devices to Malicious Attacks
Researchers studying cybersecurity have found a new hacking method that puts users at serious danger by taking advantage of flaws in the eSIM technology found in contemporary cellphones.
The Kigen eUICC card is affected. As of December 2020, over two billion SIMs in IoT devices were enabled, according to the Irish company's website.
AG Security Research's research lab, Security Explorations, is the source of the findings. The business received a $30,000 prize from Kigen for their report. A digital SIM card that is directly integrated into a device as software placed onto an Embedded Universal Integrated Circuit Card (eUICC) chip is known as an embedded SIM, or eSIM.
