Chinese Hackers Target Taiwan and U.S. NGO with MgBot and MACMA Malware
An improved collection of malware tools has been used by Daggerfly, a Beijing-affiliated state-sponsored hacking outfit, to attack organizations in Taiwan and a U.S. non-governmental organization (NGO) established in China.
The effort indicates that the gang "also engages in internal espionage," according to a new analysis released today by Symantec's Threat Hunter Team, a division of Broadcom. "In the attack on this organization, the attackers exploited a vulnerability in an Apache HTTP server to deliver their MgBot malware."
