Windows 11 Notepad flaw let files execute silently via Markdown links
By fooling users into clicking specially generated Markdown links, Microsoft has solved a "remote code execution" vulnerability in Windows 11 Notepad that let attackers to run local or remote applications without displaying any Windows security warnings.
With the debut of Windows 1.0, Microsoft unveiled Notepad, a straightforward and user-friendly text editor that gained popularity over time for fast note-taking, text file reading, to-do list creation, and code editing.
Windows Write and subsequently WordPad were options for anyone who wanted a rich text format (RTF) editor that supported a variety of fonts, sizes, and formatting features like bold, italics, and lists.
However, Microsoft made the decision to stop WordPad and take it out of Windows with the release of Windows 11.
