U.S. Justice Department Sues Apple Over Monopoly and Messaging Security

Along with sixteen other state and district attorneys general, the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) charged Apple on Thursday with unlawfully holding a monopoly over smartphones, compromising customers' privacy and security when messaging non-iPhone users, among other things. The landmark antitrust complaint claimed that Apple uses consumer preferences, privacy, and security as justifications for its anticompetitive behavior. Apple uses security and privacy defenses as a flexible barrier that it can adjust to suit its commercial and financial objectives.
