Over 20,000 Instagram accounts stolen in Meta AI support hack

According to Meta, more than 20,000 Instagram users had their accounts taken over in a recent incident where hackers reset passwords using Meta's AI-powered help system. The threat actors took use of a weakness in the company's High Touch Support (HTS) tool, an AI-assisted support system that helps users regain access after being locked out of their Instagram accounts, as BleepingComputer revealed a week ago. They received password reset links that let them to log in and take over accounts without two-factor authentication (2FA) activated by taking advantage of HTS's failure to check whether email addresses were connected to the targeted Instagram accounts.
