FBI disrupts Moobot botnet used by Russian military hackers

The Russian Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff (GRU) was using a botnet of small office/home office (SOHO) routers to spoof harmful traffic and launch spearphishing and credential theft attacks against the United States and its allies. The FBI knocked down the botnet. Moobot malware attacked hundreds of Ubiquiti Edge OS routers, and GRU Military Unit 26165—also known as APT28, Fancy Bear, and Sednit—was in charge of this network.
