Prudential Financial now says 2.5 million impacted by data breach

Global financial services provider Prudential Financial has disclosed that a data breach in February exposed the personal information of more than 2.5 million individuals. Prudential discovered the problem on February 5, one day after the attackers—a suspected cybercrime group—breached company networks and gained access to employee and contractor accounts as well as administrative and user data, according to an 8-K form that was submitted with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The Fortune 500 business disclosed in a March filing with the Maine Attorney General's Office that it had alerted more than 36,000 individuals whose names, driver's license numbers, and non-driver identity card numbers were among the personal data taken in the hack.
