Microsoft Legal Action Disrupts RedVDS Cybercrime Infrastructure Used for Online Fraud
Microsoft said on Wednesday that it has filed a coordinated lawsuit in the United States and the United Kingdom to stop RedVDS, a cybercrime subscription service that has allegedly contributed to millions of dollars' worth of fraud damages.
According to the IT giant, it has been able to take down the illegal service ("redvds[.]com") and seize the harmful infrastructure as part of a larger law enforcement endeavor in cooperation with law enforcement authorities.
According to Steven Masada, associate general counsel of Microsoft's Digital Crimes Unit, RedVDS gives thieves access to disposable virtual computers that make fraud inexpensive, scalable, and challenging to detect for as little as US $24 per month.
