Google Adds Rust-Based DNS Parser into Pixel 10 Modem to Enhance Security
As part of its continuous efforts to strengthen Pixel device security and promote memory-safe programming at a more fundamental level, Google has announced the incorporation of a Rust-based Domain Name System (DNS) parser into the modem firmware.
According to Jiacheng Lu, a software engineer with the Google Pixel Team, the new Rust-based DNS parser significantly reduces our security risk by mitigating an entire class of vulnerabilities in a risky area and laying the foundation for broader adoption of memory-safe code in other areas.
The Pixel 10 is the first Pixel device to incorporate a memory-safe language into its modem, and it offers the security enhancement through Rust integration.
