In contrast to other known Delphi-based malware families connected to the Latin American cybercrime ecosystem, cybersecurity experts have revealed information of a new banking malware written in Rust that targets Brazilian consumers. The Brazilian cybersecurity firm ZenoX has given the malware, which was initially found last month and is intended to infect Windows systems, the code name VENON. VENON is noteworthy because it exhibits characteristics like banking overlay logic, active window monitoring, and a shortcut (LNK) hijacking mechanism that are similar to those of well-known banking trojans that target the area, like Grandoreiro, Mekotio, and Coyote.
