Spain arrests suspected hacktivists for DDoSing govt sites
Four suspected members of a hacktivist group that is suspected of conducting cyberattacks against political parties, government ministries, and other public institutions have been taken into custody by Spanish police.
According to the Spanish Civil Guard, the organization, which went by the name "Anonymous Fénix" and claimed to be associated with the Anonymous hacking collective, carried out distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) operations against targets in Spain and multiple South American nations.
Attacks began in April 2023 and reached its zenith following the flash floods in Valencia in late October 2024, when members of the group targeted several government websites, accusing Spanish authorities of being to blame for the storm's devastation and fatalities.
