Majorca city Calvià extorted for $11M in ransomware attack
The Calvià City Council in Majorca declared on Saturday that a ransomware attack has affected its ability to provide municipal services.
With 50,000 residents, Calvià is a historic town on the Spanish island of Majorca. It is one of the island's main tourist destinations, with an estimated 1.6 million visitors a year.
A hack that affected Calvia's systems over the weekend prompted the council to establish a crisis committee to assess the damage and create steps to mitigate its effects.
