Iran-Linked Hackers Disrupt U.S. Critical Infrastructure by Targeting Internet-Exposed PLCs
Cybersecurity and intelligence agencies warned on Tuesday that Iran-affiliated cyber actors are targeting internet-facing operational technology (OT) equipment across key infrastructures in the United States, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) stated in a post on X that these attacks have resulted in decreased PLC functionality, manipulation of display data, and, in certain circumstances, operational disruption and financial loss.
The campaign, according to the agencies, is a part of a recent increase in cyberattacks against American companies that are being planned by Iranian hacker groups in reaction to the ongoing dispute between Iran, the United States, and Israel.
