FTC bans GM from selling drivers’ location data for five years
General Motors (GM) and its subsidiary, OnStar, have reached a settlement with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission regarding allegations that they obtained and sold the location and driving information of millions of drivers without their consent.
Over 6.1 million cars are produced annually by General Motors, which also owns the GMC, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and Buick brands. Digital in-car services like navigation, communications, security, emergency services, and remote diagnostics are offered by GM's subsidiary, OnStar.
