New U.S. Visa Rule Requires Applicants to Set Social Media Account Privacy to Public
Applicants for F, M, and J nonimmigrant visas are advised to make their social media accounts public, according to a statement from the US Embassy in India.
The new guideline aims to assist officials in confirming applicants' identities and eligibility in accordance with US law. Every evaluation of a visa application is a "national security decision," according to the U.S. Embassy.
As of right now, the embassy posted on X, "Anyone applying for an F, M, or J nonimmigrant visa is asked to change the privacy settings on all of their personal social media accounts to 'public' in order to facilitate the vetting process required to prove their identity and admissibility to the United States.
