Luna Moth extortion hackers pose as IT help desks to breach US firms
Luna Moth, also known as the Silent Ransom outfit, is a data-theft extortion outfit that has increased its phishing attempts against financial and legal institutions in the United States.
Arda Büyükkaya, a researcher at EclecticIQ, claims that extortion and data theft are the ultimate objectives of these attacks.
Threat actors Luna Moth, also known internally as Silent Ransom Group, have previously carried such BazarCall campaigns to obtain early access to company networks for Ryuk and subsequently ransomware attacks using Conti.
As Conti began to close down in March 2022, the BazarCall threat actors broke away from the Conti syndicate and established a new operation known as the Silent Ransom Group (SRG).
