Hackers Using Fake Video Conferencing Apps to Steal Web3 Professionals’ Data
Researchers in cybersecurity have alerted consumers to a new fraud operation that uses phony video conferencing apps to spread the information-stealing virus Realst, which targets Web3 employees by pretending to be in a professional conference.
The malware's threat actors have created phony businesses with AI to give them more validity, according to Tara Gould, a researcher at Cado Security. When the organization contacts targets to arrange a video conversation, the user is prompted to download the Realst infostealer meeting application from the website.
Because the fake websites utilize names like Clusee, Cuesee, Meeten, Meetone, and Meetio, the security firm has given the activity the codename Meeten.
