A conviction has been obtained by the Metropolitan Police in what is thought to be the greatest cryptocurrency seizure in history, with a total estimated worth of over £5.5 billion ($7.3 billion).
Yadi Zhang, also known as Zhimin Qian, 47, entered a guilty plea to the Proceeds of Crime Act today at Southwark Crown Court for obtaining and holding illegal property. Between 2014 and 2017, she allegedly ran a multibillion-pound Bitcoin scam that robbed over 128,000 people in China, according to the police.
The company that Qian was the brains behind offered investors substantial returns of between 100 and 300 percent of their investment. She reportedly raised 40 billion yuan from about 130,000 investors using this method.
She was dubbed the “Bitcoin Queen” in China for her early efforts to market Bitcoin, referring to it as “digital gold.”
