Android Spyware Disguised as Alpine Quest App Targets Russian Military Devices

According to cybersecurity researchers, a new malicious campaign that disseminates Android spyware masquerading as the Alpine Quest mapping program is targeting Russian military personnel.

According to an investigation by Doctor Web, the attackers conceal this malware under altered Alpine Quest mapping software and disseminate it via a number of channels, including one of the Russian Android app stores.

The virus was discovered to be integrated into earlier iterations of the program and spread as a free version of Alpine Quest Pro, a premium edition that does not include analytics or advertising.
