According to new research from Kaspersky, the kernel exploit for two security flaws utilized in the recently discovered Apple iOS exploit kit known as Coruna is an updated version of the same vulnerability used in the Operation Triangulation operation back in 2023.
According to a statement from Boris Larin, lead security researcher at Kaspersky GReAT, “shared vulnerabilities alone do not prove shared authorship,” the public evidence at the time of Coruna’s initial report was insufficient to connect its code to triangulation.
Coruna is an ongoing evolution of the original Operation Triangulation framework, not a patchwork of public exploits. This codebase has been actively expanded by the original creators, as evidenced by the inclusion of checks for more recent iOS releases and processors like the M3.
