Researchers studying cybersecurity have uncovered significant flaws in the operators’ infrastructure by delving into the inner workings of an Android banking trojan known as ERMAC 3.0.
According to a research by Hunt.io, the recently discovered version 3.0 of the virus shows a considerable evolution, extending its form injection and data theft capabilities to target over 700 banking, shopping, and cryptocurrency services.
ThreatFabric initially reported on ERMAC in September 2021, describing how it might perform overlay attacks against hundreds of cryptocurrencies and banking applications worldwide. It is thought to be a development of Cerberus and BlackRock and is attributed to a threat actor called DukeEugene.
