On Wednesday, Meta Platforms announced that it had taken action to delete some 63,000 Instagram accounts from Nigeria that were discovered to be used as a conduit for money extortion scams.

Meta claimed that it reported certain of these accounts to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in circumstances where they sought to target kids.
