NoaBot Mirai-Based Botnet Targeting SSH Servers for Crypto Mining

Threat actors have begun using a new Mirai-based botnet named NoaBot as part of an effort to mine cryptocurrency from the beginning of 2023.

According to a study shared with The Hacker News by Akamai security researcher Stiv Kupchik, “The capabilities of the new botnet, NoaBot, include a wormable self-spreader and an SSH key backdoor to download and execute additional binaries or spread itself to new victims.”

The 2016 source code release of Mirai led to the creation of several botnets, the most current of which being InfectedSlurs, which can launch distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) assaults.
