One tenth of UK staff bypass corporate security

New research suggests that one in every ten UK employees actively circumvent corporate security measures

A new study from Cisco has found that a tenth of UK employees actively circumvents their organization’s security measures.

The network technology company polled over 1000 UK professionals working for organizations that allow hybrid working, in order to better understand the potential security risks of the modern, flexible workplace.

The research has revealed that many hybrid workers do not see cybersecurity responsibility, with many actively finding workarounds or engaging in risky behaviors such as password reuse.

19% of employees said they reuse passwords for multiple accounts and applications, with only 15% using password managers.

The problem seems to stem from user friction in existing security measures. Only 44% of survey participants said they found it easy to securely access their IT equipment.
