Italy Fines Apple €98.6 Million Over ATT Rules Limiting App Store Competition

The Italian antitrust authorities found that Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) privacy framework hindered competition in the App Store and fined the corporation €98.6 million ($116 million). The company's "absolute dominant position" in app distribution, according to the Italian Competition Authority (Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato, or AGCM), permitted it to "unilaterally impose" the ATT requirements on third-party app developers without first consulting them.
