Irish Regulators Fine Facebook $414 Million for Forcing Users to Accept Targeted Ads

In what might be a severe blow to its ad-fueled business model, the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) fined Meta Platforms €390 million (approximately $414 million) over its management of user data for displaying tailored adverts. To that end, the privacy watchdog has mandated that Meta Ireland pay two fines: one of €210 million ($222.5 million) for violating Facebook's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the other of €180 million ($191 million) for violating Instagram's GDPR.
