New HTTPBot Botnet Launches 200+ Precision DDoS Attacks on Gaming and Tech Sectors
Researchers studying cybersecurity are drawing attention to a new botnet malware known as HTTPBot, which has been used mostly to target Chinese educational institutions, software enterprises, and the gaming industry.
It has grown rapidly over the last few months, consistently using compromised devices to initiate external attacks, according to a report released this week by NSFOCUS. It gets around conventional rule-based detection methods by using dynamic feature obfuscation techniques and highly mimicked HTTP Flood attacks.
The term "HTTPBot," which was first observed in the wild in August 2024, refers to the distributed denial-of-service attacks that are launched using HTTP protocols. It's written in Golang, which is unusual because it targets Windows systems.
