French television network TF1 reports that Pavel Durov, the creator and CEO of the well-known messaging service Telegram, was taken into custody on Saturday in France.
It is thought that Durov was taken into custody as a result of a warrant that was issued as part of an initial police inquiry.
According to TF1, the investigation centered on the instant messaging service’s lack of content filtering, which the police found problematic since it allowed different illicit activities, such as drug trafficking, child pornography, money laundering, and fraud, to thrive on the app.
