With effect from December 1, 2024, Google has stated that Maps Timeline data will be stored locally on users’ devices rather than in their Google accounts.

The tech giant first revealed the adjustments in December 2023, along with modifications to the auto-delete feature when enabling Location History, which now has a three-month default setting instead of the prior eighteen-month maximum.
